One of the reasons
why news updates have been....a bit slow recently.

My wife and I
welcomed our son Conor Atsuya McMillen into the world late last October.
He is an absolute joy in every way. Things have changed forever, yet
everything feels just perfect, as if this was the next logical step. And
the best one. How have I changed? I've become more
responsible, more scatter-brained; more mature, more child-like; more carefree,
more cautious. I relate nearly every professional responsibility and
activity to my son: I find myself thinking about how much more vivid and
palpable the experience would be with him. ("How would Conor enjoy this?")
Having a child, especially one as fun and adorable as this is, quite simply, the
greatest gift.

"Powerhouse
Pianists," the studio version of the infamous shared recital from late
2005 (with pianist Steve Gosling - see homepage for related article) was
released February 2008. I play some fantastic and variegated
solo music by Chester Biscardi, Lee Hyla, Eric Moe, and Annie Gosfield.
Order a copy on Amazon/CDBaby/Itunes, etc.

'38 Special:
I'm wrapping up final edits on my
"Multiplicities: Born in '38" recording for Centaur Records. It includes piano pieces by Bolcom, Harbison, Rzewski, Wuorinen, Tower, and Corigliano. I'm
particularly excited about the two 2-piano works on the CD, played with pianist
friend Sachiko Kato.
Coincidentally, American
Modern Ensemble had their own "1938" concert on Feb. 3, which I was fortunate to
participate in. In addition to a big John Harbison song cycle, I played
John Corigliano's "Chiaroscuro," for two quarter-tone tuned pianos, with Steve Gosling.
(Special thanks to David Sumrell for "de-tuning" at the last minute!) Review in Musicweb
International
