COUNTER)INDUCTION. Choosing a name spilt by a
functionless parenthesis may be a way of calling attention to an ensemble,
but counter)induction hardly needs gimmicks. In the last year, this
new-music group has given a handful of thoughtfully programmed and
superbly played concerts in New York, and some of its members ─ most
notably its pianist, Blair McMillen, and its violinist, Asmira
Woodward-Page
─ have given adventurous, enthusiastically received recitals.
For its current program, the group is joined by Dora Ohrenstein, a
mezzo-soprano with solid new-music credentials. The program includes works
by the ensemble's resident composers, Kyle Bartlett and Douglas Boyce, as
well as recent scores by Lee Hyla, Jason Eckardt, Susan Botti and Richard
Festinger. Sunday at 7, Christ and St. Stephen's Church, 120 West 69th Street,
Manhattan, (718) 796-7056. Tickets: $12 (suggested donation) (Allan
Kozinn).
